I openly admit that I am a complete a total newb at paintball. I have a Smart Parts Ion and I go playing with some friends from my school every month or so. I’m not looking to play professional, but how the hell do those guys shoot their guns so fast using two fingers???? Is it some kind of technique because it boggles my mind.

its all about finger vibration. to move your fingers up and down just wont cut it but if you practice finger vibration you can shoot around 20-25 bps.Its simple really all you do is move your fingers in a close togather motion until your fingers begin to almost vibrate. or they could just be using something like psp ramping and or millennium. but practice.

I’m not an expert on paintball myself, but i’ve heard my friends talking about it enough to know the rules, style of play and gear involved

There are special paintball guns on the market (i think theyre called spyders?) that have a "double trigger" instead of just one. What that basically means is the trigger has a place for two fingers instead of one, and instead of just repeatedly pushing the same trigger with the same finger, the "double trigger" or "rocker–i think" allows you to rock your fingers back and forth (because there are two triggers) and therefore shoot paintballs twice as fast.

Well, they must have tweaked their markers triggers to be fairly sensitive and then, as olgc2977 said, learned to, for lack of a better word at this time, "vibrate" their fingers having the trigger finger and middle finger alternate between pulling the trigger. That or they have markers with ramping firing modes where all they need to do is pull the trigger at say 10bps and the marker will fire at 25bps or whatever the setting is on. You say you have an Ion correct? Well, it has a rebound firing mode which is much the same as ramping. You can use that firing mode or you can buy a new board, such as the Blackheart board, which should enable you to fire over 20bps given the right firing mode and a little practice. However, you need to remember this, it only takes one well placed shot to eliminate an opponent, not 20. Get a good aftermarket barrel, HPA, and practice until all you need to do is shoot a few balls to get an out instead of spraying half your hopper hoping to get an out.

    Edit.

I just read misstaxd…’s reply and had to laugh. She really doesn’t know much about paintball. Spyder’s, which are made by Kingman, are not special markers. They are very common low end markers. A lot of marker come standard with double triggers and those that don’t can have aftermarket ones installed. The Rocking trigger is made by Kingman for Kingman markers only and personally I don’t like the way they feel.

James says to buy an automatic marker. Well, your Ion should have a 10bps full auto firing mode, however if you play on a true paintball field, many don’t allow the use of it.

The E-Trigger used to be made by Tippmann for the 98, but it was replace by the E-Grip. Now Kingman is the only one I know of that has what they call the E-Trigger. However many other manufacturers have an Electronic trigger system by other names.

Brandon explained a lot and i’ll probably have to vote for his answer but i’m just gonna sum it up:

Practice shooting with your index & middle fingers, alternating each one, called "walking" the trigger.

To get a better idea, take those two fingers & pretend their legs. "Walk" with them. Try "walking" really fast. Now do that on your Ion’s trigger.

There are modes that help, like ramping, where you only have to maintain a certain trigger speed then the gun will "ramp" up the shooting speed for you. Good for tourneys that allow it. Personally, i don’t like it. I prefer simple semi-only, where the speed the gun shoots is totally dictated by the speed i’m able to pull the trigger.

It’s a combination of things. Skill definitely counts. Building speed through exercising does help. I read that pros use rubber bands linking their thumb to index and thumb to middle finger to increase finger strength and speed. Honestly, tapping on your leg while in the car, at the computer, in school etc… does help. Just the repetitive movement conditions your fingers to move ultimately gaining speed.

Don’t be fooled, it’s not all about finger speed. Most markers that are shooting high rates of fire are modified as well. Most aftermarket triggers are highly adjustable. You can adjust the distance or travel between the trigger at rest and activation. Shorter distances obviously increase firing rates. There are multiple adjustment points on most aftermarket triggers are gear to increase comfort and speed. The shape of the trigger is important too. Pick a trigger that is comfortable for you. Believe me, it makes a big difference.

Another mod is the board itself. Almost all aftermarket boards boost firing modes and bps (balls per second) over the board that came stock with the gun. Most of the fast guys are shooting guns with modified boards. For your Ion, the Ape or Virtue board are top upgrades.

the markers firstly have electronic feeding. double tirggers allow you to "walk" its as someone said earlier. most of the time the really fast shooting is not from the auto response triggers, but these double ones.
